Our dental practice has always provided the most up-to-date care to our patients. When we found out that we could also make your x-rays safer, it was an easy decision to incorporate Digital Radiology into our practice. Digital dental x-rays or radiographs are very important. They allow Dr. Musseau to see things about your oral health that cannot be seen by the naked eye. These items include cysts (sacks of fluid that form on the roots of teeth), cancerous and non-cancerous tumors, invisible decay that occurs between teeth, and the location of teeth that haven't grown all the way in. By using digital radiography to diagnose these problems, we can help save you money in the long run from surgeries or other treatments that might become necessary if we didn't find the problem.
With the new technology, instead of the trip to the developing tank, you will watch images come up on a computer screen two minutes after the device is inserted into your mouth. The images will be higher resolution than film images and will be stored in computer memory, from which they can be easily retrieved. Digital technology is safe not only for our patients, but also for our community because there are no chemicals or lead wrapper waste to dispose of into the environment.
Aesthetic restorative care can be the key to a truly nice smile.
Tooth-coloured bonded fillings are natural in appearance and integrate
with the colour of your teeth. Dr. Musseau uses a "rubber dam"
which encircles the area in which he is working in your mouth
making it comfortable for you during the procedure.
Hygiene is an important part of preventive dentistry services
and prevention is always better than treatment. Actively preventing
disease and decay through professional dental cleanings and examinations,
is one of your best dental investments. During a hygiene appointment
we clean and polish your teeth and check for gum disease. Gum
inflammation due to build ups of plaque and tartar at the gum-line
is called gingivitis. This condition will advance to serious periodontal
disease if left untreated and can eventually lead to tooth loss.
If gum disease is diagnosed, Dr. Musseau will recommend a periodontal
program. This treatment is provided at our office.
Dental
Sealants acts as a barrier, protecting teeth against decay-causing
bacteria. A sealant is a plastic material applied to the chewing
surfaces of the back teeth where decay occurs most often. Children
and teenagers are wonderful candidates for sealants but adults
may benefit from them as well. Application of sealants is a very
simple procedure and only takes a few minutes.
We are pleased to offer an innovative new treatment called LUMINEERS ™ by Cerinate ®
which gives patients a painless and conservative way to reshape, revitalize and permanently
whiten teeth. Unlike traditional veneers which require the removal of sensitive tooth structure,
necessitating anesthetic, LUMINEERS are a contact lens-thin covering that provide instant teeth
straightening, transforming misshapen, worn teeth into a naturally beautiful smile that greatly
enhances appearance and confidence. Since LUMINEERS are minimally invasive, they are actually
reversible and can be removed with original teeth virtually untouched. They are clinically
proven to last up to 20 years although each case is dependent upon such factors as a patient's
occlusion and dental habits.
Veneers are thin, custom designed facings designed to cover the
front of your teeth. They can be used to correct gaps, discoloration
or poorly shaped or crooked teeth. Veneers can make a tremendous
difference to your smile whether to fix teeth damaged in an accident,
improve nature's flaws or for strictly cosmetic reasons to give
you that smile you have always dreamed of having. Veneers are
made in a dental lab and only take as few as two appointments
to complete the procedure. They are a very effective way to make
a dramatic improvement to your appearance.
Bonding is an excellent solution to repair chipped and broken
teeth, close gaps, cover up unattractive discolorations. In this
simple process a tooth coloured material is bonded to the front
surface of the tooth to change its appearance. Bonding is long-lasting,
can be done in only one appointment and can make a dramatic change
to a person's smile.
Tooth reshaping can be done to improve the appearance of a smile
and can make the shape of the teeth look more balanced. It is
a conservative process and can often be completed without freezing.
Tooth reshaping is an excellent solution to annoying problems
like chipped teeth.
Gum tissue contouring enables Dr. Musseau to remove excess gum
tissue and give a more pleasant appearance to your smile. Have
you ever seen someone smile and their teeth look short or they
have a "gummy" smile? Or have you noticed smiles where the gum
is high or low on one front tooth compared to the similar tooth
on the other side? These situations really spoil what would otherwise
be a great smile.
Most people think you either have healthy or unhealthy gums.
However, there is a third category; excessive (but healthy) gum
on one, two or all the teeth. The solution is to gently anesthetize
the tissue. We then use an electronic instrument to sculpt away
the excess tissue. The gum tissue is sealed as it is sculpted
so as to avoid bleeding. This procedure is safe and remarkably
pain-free during and after the procedure. The results are usually
permanent, and very affordable
A crown today can provide a very natural, beautiful and long-lasting
restoration. Sometimes called a "cap", a crown completely covers
a tooth, and can be used to restore it to its normal shape and
size. Some common uses of crowns include covering and strengthening
a tooth with a large filling and little natural tooth structure,
attaching a bridge, protecting a weak tooth from breaking or restoring
one that has already broken. Crowns also enable you to improve
the appearance of discolored or poorly shaped teeth and last for
many years if properly cared for.
If you are missing one or more teeth a bridge may be placed to
restore your smile to its natural beauty. Missing teeth can affect
your self confidence, your ability to chew and even speak. Sometimes
referred to as a Fixed Partial Denture, a bridge replaces your
missing teeth with artificial teeth and is attached to teeth on
either side of the gap. This restoration ensures that your natural
teeth do not shift, and also helps maintain the shape of your
face to prevent premature aging. With the new cosmetic materials
available today, this restoration can provide you with a smile
that rivals Mother Nature herself.
If you want a strong, long-lasting and invisible restoration,
then an inlay or onlay is your best dental investment. These restorations
match your own tooth colour, providing natural translucency and
are extremely strong and long lasting. An inlay covers only one
or two surfaces of the tooth and is used to restore a small amount
of decay and an onlay actually covers more of the chewing surface
of the tooth. An inlay or onlay is cemented to the prepared surface
of the tooth and fits almost perfectly helping to prevent decay
from occurring under the restoration. Initially a greater investment
than fillings, inlays and onlays, due to their long life and accurate
fit are a better long term investment. Cosmetically they are an
unrivaled choice.
Root canal therapy is an excellent way to save a tooth that would
otherwise need to be removed due to infection, decay or injury.
Saving a tooth is almost always preferable to losing it. This
convenient procedure is completed in one visit from start to finish
for most cases.
When the jaw isn't large enough to accommodate wisdom teeth, they
may become impacted (unable to come in or misaligned) causing
pain and swelling and it is generally recommended to remove them.
Dr. Musseau has performed many wisdom teeth extractions and you
may be comfortable in choosing to have this procedure at our office.
Immediate dentures are inserted into your mouth immediately after
the removal of your teeth. An advantage of this treatment is that
you do not have to be without teeth during the healing process
and when bones and gums heal over a period of six months, your
dentures can be relined to ensure a proper fit. Patients appreciate
this convenient treatment which prevents the self consciousness
and challenges of a period without teeth. There are many choices
today with dentures and our aim is to ensure you a comfortable,
flattering and enduring choice that gives you an attractive and
natural smile, without premature aging.
Removable partial dentures attach to your permanent teeth. Their
enhancement to your smile is natural and attractive. Patients
have many choices in the types of partial dentures available.
A bright dynamic smile is a wonderful boost to self-esteem and
with today's at-home whitening kits, we can provide a customized
program that will give you long-lasting and professional results.
This program begins with impressions to provide you with a custom
tray to hold the flowable whitening gel. One of the important
differences with a professional kit is the accuracy of the materials
to reach every indentation in your tooth structure and provide
an even and glowing result.
Orthodontic treatment is an option available for both children
and adults and these days it is more common than ever to see Mom
and Dad undertaking an orthodontic treatment program. All treatment
begins with an orthodontic evaluation where pretreatment records
are taken to assist Dr. Musseau in determining the best treatment
for your individual needs. There are a variety of orthodontic
appliances that may be used in treatment and treatment times can
vary from patient to patient. Dr. Musseau has undertaken many
orthodontic cases and would be pleased to discuss your concerns
in a private consultation.
Temporomandibular joint disorders (TMJ) with chronic facial pain
can be a debilitating disease and can include pain in or around
the ear, tenderness of the jaw, clicking or popping noises when
chewing or opening the mouth, or even headaches, neck aches and
back pain. If you are concerned about such symptoms, you may wish
to book a TMJ consultation with Dr. Musseau.
Oral sedation is a dental choice for you if you have a high fear
of visiting a dentist or other symptoms such as a strong gag reflex
or very sensitive teeth. With this procedure you are given sedating
drug which relaxes you prior to our appointment and removes your
anxiety about dental care. If you feel that you may be a candidate
for oral sedation, please contact our office for further information
and to book a consultation.
A consultation with Dr. Musseau is an excellent opportunity to
find out more information about your dental care choices. If you
are wondering about cosmetic or orthodontic treatments, for example,
a consultation provides an opportunity for us to answer your questions
and explain the treatment options available to you.
