Dr.
Musseau is a graduate of Dalhousie University School of Dentistry
in Halifax, Nova Scotia. A native of Port Aux Basques, Newfoundland,
Dr. Musseau began practicing in General Dentistry in Grand Falls-Windsor,
Newfoundland in 1983. Over the years he has been very involved
in Continuing Education and he enjoys the challenge of creating
beautiful and natural smiles for his patients. Dr. Musseau has
studied Cranial Sacral Therapy at the Upledger Institute in Florida.
He has also studied Temporal Mandibular Joint and Cranial Facial
Pain. He has done numerous programs in Esthetic and Cosmetic Dentistry
along with Fixed and Functional Orthodontics and Orthopedics and
Conscious Sedation. Through the knowledge and experience gained
from many areas of dentistry, he is able to provide a broad range
of services to his patients.
Dr. Musseau is a member of the American Association
for Functional Orthodontics, the International Association for
Orthodontics, The Academy of General Dentistry, the American Association
of Cosmetic Dentistry, The American Academy of Craniofacial Pain,
The Canadian Dental Association and The Newfoundland Dental Association.
Dr. Musseau's path to dentistry was an unusual
one. Were it not for sheer determination and a great deal of commitment,
he might have remained an employee of CN Rail. We think it's a
story you might enjoy knowing.
Dr. Musseau finished his formal education with
high school and was more than eager to take advantage of the opportunity
of employment with CN Rail, a major employer in Port Aux Basques
at that time. As he had a history of working with CN while in
high school, it seemed like a natural progression to become a
reservation agent with the gulf ferry services. He eventually
moved to Moncton, NB, where he apprenticed to become a Machinist
with CN. We like to say that his involvement with train tracks
came long before his interest in the train tracks used in orthodontics!
But thankfully for all his patients there was
an interest in furthering his future. After five years in the
workforce, he enrolled in the University of Moncton, primarily
a French language institution, and managed to undertake enough
courses in English to enable him to qualify to apply to Memorial
University (MUN) in St. John's, Newfoundland, for a pre-dentistry
program. While working three evenings a week and on weekends with
CN, he completed his program at MUN resulting in his acceptance
at Dalhousie University (DAL) School of Dentistry. While attending
DAL, he continued to work part-time with university security services,
with CN in the summer and also as a handyman whenever he could
take on additional work. His graduation in 1983 was a welcome
reprise from eight long years of work, study and commitment that
left him little time for social activities or relaxation.
It is little wonder that someone who has followed
such a challenging career path continues to maintain a high regard
for life-long learning and a respectful dedication to his chosen
profession. He often recalls how along the path people, including
his family, simply told him it couldn't be done. With no background
in chemistry, physics or biology and work experience as a ticket
agent and machinist, setting his sights on dentistry was a foolish
dream. Well, Dr. Musseau is convinced that foolish dreams can
become fulfilling professions if the desire to succeed is only
given a chance to manifest.
